more cows! :) ![]() Wait, there is more! I submitted some new artwork to yet another contest. As an alumni of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, I keep up with their newsletters and announcements. Last week, I saw an e-mail requesting art that could be featured in upcoming IIE & Gilman publications! That does include cover artwork opportunities. Each year, Open Doors, IIE's premier report on international education exchange, is published and features cover artwork from affiliates of IIE. The year 2010 was the first time the organization featured a former scholarship recipient''s artwork. To sum things up, I was very excited just to have the chance to create something new. I reflected on my time in Melbourne, Australia and even watched a video I recorded on my camera for more inspiration (yes, that video at the bottom of this post). It was a little rushed, but I used a mix of media; including watercolor paint, chalk pastels, ink and color pencils. It was more of for experimentation, but the materials worked well together and made the picture look more vibrant. I am in the process of teaching myself watercolor painting, and blending some areas is something I have seen illustration gurus do so I just went for it. I bought my first watercolor set last Saturday I have been fascinated ever since. The image the the upper left is the final version of Petting Zoo, my submission to The Open Doors call for artwork. Below are also a few images I posted to Instagram while practicing and learning all about watercolor painting. Comments are closed.
